Josiah and Becca Baker

Josiah’s love for and interest in serving in Cambodia began with his family heritage. His mom was a Khmer refugee that moved to the US in the wake of the Khmer rouge. Her family was among the first Christians in Cambodia. During Josiah’s childhood, he and his extended family visited Cambodia and he experienced firsthand the needs of the people. This instilled in him a desire to pursue an education that would be effective in serving the people there one day. Since then, God has impressed on him the call to serve in Cambodia long-term.

Becca’s interest in international missions began with short-term trips in high school and, after graduating, she decided to take the next step with a longer commitment to serve for four months in Peru. She felt that living overseas was God’s plan for her life and prayed for a husband that shared this interest and was called to a specific location.

Josiah and Becca met while attending Oregon State University and serving on the worship team at Grant Avenue Baptist Church. READ MORE

Prayer

Pray for courage for new believers to take a stand against the pressure from family and friends to forsake their new-found beliefs. Also pray for a new fire of devotion to Christ among evangelical Christians.

About EMI Cambodia

“As part of EMI’s vision to plant local offices in all major regions of the world, Engineering Ministries International first set its sights on Southeast Asia and Cambodia in 2015. With our team now operating in the capital, Phnom Penh, we are excited about increased opportunities to work in the 10/40 window and for our first office in a Buddhist worldview culture. But what really excites us is the opportunity to influence the design and development culture of this small country. After civil wars in the 1970’s, Cambodia has worked diligently to make up for those lost years—sparking an era of rapid development and urbanization. Phnom Penh now has an incredible number of young, motivated and bright university students and design professionals, ready to do their part to shape the future. EMI Cambodia stands alongside this nation, sharing our design & construction knowledge to see the Kingdom of Cambodia prosper.”
