God, I AM

Morgan Freeman is God. At least he thinks so. Freeman is an Academy Award winning actor who played the role of God in Bruce Almighty. However, he actually believes he is God. In an interview with Fox411 in July 2012, the host of “Through The Wormhole” on the Science Channel confessed his deity. And rapper Kanye West thinks he is a god, too. His song “I Am (A) god” celebrates his deity. But, then, Dr. Wayne Dyer thinks he is God. On the website that hawks “I Am God” T-shirts, he explains his deity and says each of us is god, too. He even cites Jesus as a good example of being god who also tells us we are all gods like him. Wow! How motivational, Wayne.

Maybe that’s why our world is so messed up; there’s so many gods running the world that all these gods are colliding into each other’s sovereign space. Looks and sounds like a 90 car pile- up on a freezing foggy interstate to me. Well, all these people who think they are god are drinking their values from several, long established philosophical systems. This new age thinking is actually the oldest lie in the universe. The Bible exposes this rebellion when the serpent first hissed it in the garden, “You will not surely die,” the serpent said to the woman. “For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Genesis 3:4,5) Since then, people have been seeking this “enlightenment” which plays out in all kinds of mystical, esoteric, machinations to be god.

Define God. What is the one essential for God that elevates the true God from Morgan Freeman, Dr. Dyer, and all others? God is the Creator. Every one and everything else is created. When I am talking about the Creator, I’m not talking about being an artist, I’m meaning bringing physical stuff out of nothing. Like this story: The God of the Bible was challenged with a face- off with a man who thought he was god. So, God said, “all aright each of us make a man.” The man said, “Okay, first let me get some dust.” God said, “No. Make your own dust.”

Jesus is God because He is the Creator, not created. The Bible clearly proclaims that Jesus is co-equal, co-existent with God the Father. For example, consider these Bible passages:

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Colossians 1:15-17 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him. He is before all things, and in whom all things hold together.

Jesus claimed to be the Creator in John 8:58 when He said, “Before Abraham was born, I AM!” Not only did Jesus say was He pre-existent before Abraham was born 2000 years earlier, He said that He is the One who confronted Moses in the burning bush. “God said to Moses, “I am who I am. This is what you to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” (Exodus 3:15) This holy name, I AM, that God uses of Himself reveals that He is the self-existent and self-sufficient Creator of the universe. Jesus intentionally used this name for Himself to end the debate with the Jewish leaders about His deity. To get the context of Jesus’ claim read the entire record of this verbal attack from the Jews.

Bottom line: Jesus is God the I AM. No one else is God, not even Morgan Freeman. Jesus is the One I’ll listen to about what God, not Dr. Dyer, or Kanye West, and certainly not me.

Read the Bible on your own to see the truth about Jesus Christ and worship Jesus as God, I AM.

For His glory,
Pastor Mike
