Jon and Dot Andrews

Evangelism and Church Planting in Portugal

About

Since 1983, Jon and Dot Andrews have been involved in evangelism and church planting.

In their first term the Andrews partnered with colleagues in a church plant in the western suburbs of Lisbon, Portugal. As time went on they developed a burden for areas of the country where fewer missionaries were able to go and where little or no permanent evangelical witness existed. This led them to begin evangelism in Ourém, a city in central Portugal near the shrine of Our Lady of Fötima. This shrine, dedicated to the exaltation of Mary, is one of Roman Catholicism's major shrines in the world.

Though the people in the area are traditional in religious terms, some are dissatisfied with those traditions and desire a genuine encounter with God. The Andrews have been privileged to share the gospel in some form or another with most households in the area and have had the joy of seeing some come to a genuine trust in Christ for their forgiveness. WorldVenture addresses the needs of families caring for children with disabilities through a developing program that provides family-based services and case management, including referral to and collaboration with other organizations. The intent is to empower families so children with disabilities do not have to be deprived of their love and care by being placed in institutions. Ultimately WorldVenture aims to help change the attitudes of local communities toward people with disabilities as these children are able to grow up to be active participants.

Serve around the globe - Short Term Missions Mobilizers

About

We are passionate about mobilizing people for the harvest through short-term trips, internships, coaching and mentoring.

I (Catherine) grew up in Cottage Grove, Oregon, where my father pastored a small church. I came to believe in Christ at age 4. My interest in people of other cultures was sparked both by the missionaries who passed through my church, and by my paternal grandparents, God-fearing immigrants from Armenia.

Born the last of five sons, my (David) faith took root while attending church with my family during my formative years. But when I was 12, my father, a good natured and hard-working man, died from a heart attack. I feel my father's character had a significant impact on the kind of man I have become. Read More

Bruce Tissell

Training Lay Leaders and Pastors for the Brazilian Church

About

Bruce first seriously considered missions. In college, Bruce saw the need for work overseas through his interactions with international students. God confirmed his call to missions at Urbana in 1984, and Bruce went to Western Seminary to prepare.

The most rewarding part of being a missionary, to Bruce, is seeing how God is faithful to His Word. It´s exciting to see Him not only save people, but see how He works in the lives of others. The resulting growth is what encourages Bruce to continue during difficult times.

God has uniquely gifted Bruce to serve in Brazil because He has given Bruce a personality that is relationally-oriented. This allows him to not only teach, but also allows him to interact with others and share in their lives. Bruce´s teaching is not limited to the classroom, as he lives side-by-side with the Brazilians. Read More

 WorldVenture – Uganda

Uganda

The church in Uganda is growing rapidly. Part of the vision of WorldVenture's team in Uganda is instilling a new hunger in pastors who have lost their appetite for God's Word. WorldVenture is sending workers to Uganda to equip church leaders to preach and teach the whole counsel of God. Teams will borrow, design, and put into action training methods that can be carried on by the national church. WorldVenture workers in Uganda hope to develop effective resource programs for urban church leaders, expand evangelistic outreach to Muslims, and implement counseling programs for mental hospital patients and prison inmates. Baptist Missions to Forgotten Peoples

About

Sharon and I have been ministering in the Bahamas since 1999. We have been using the airplane as a tool to get around the many islands. Our main ministry has been to the youth doing Vacation Bible School on eight different islands and as many communities on those islands as we have workers to spread around.  An annual tent crusade on Eleuthera and re-establishing and renovation of Ebenezer Baptist Church on Ragged Island are just a few of the ministries accomplished.
