Top Salesman Of The Year

Posted on Jun 13, 2013 in blog

He sold 25 new Chevy’s a month in 1974. Ed Black Chevrolet in Albuquerque, New Mexico, was fortunate to have my Dad work for them. John E. Albin was a very honest man. He told me he could have made four times as much money on commissions if he sold used cars (that’s where the profit is in the car business). “Dad!  Why don’t you move to the used car lot? You’d be rich!” “I want sleep at night, Mike.”   Settled.   Done.   Unforgettable. Mom and Dad 1974 My Dad was more than an excellent salesman. He was messy. His garage was a jungle. His black metal fishing tackle box...

God is full of surprises, isn’t He?

King Amaziah of Judah had just hired a hundred thousand mercenaries for a huge chunk of change. But God intercepted him with a warning that trusting in ungodly methods would cause the King’s defeat “for God has the power to help or to overthrow.” “But what about all that money I’ll lose if I don’t use the mercenaries?” “The LORD can give you much more than that?” Can God really do that? Before you answer that question put yourself in Amaziah’s sandals. Although he was  trying to follow the Bible to establish control of his kingdom, he really didn’t think trusting God...

Within A Yard Of Hell?

Posted on May 29, 2013 in blog

Our church sign was vandalized Sunday night.  Why?  Was the vandal upset with Christianity or just with our church?  Maybe it was just some kid goofing off? I remember when some friends and I broke into an abandoned church when I was 11 in Lone Oak, Texas.  I “preached” my first sermon to those boys on the front row.  I vividly remember my mocking message was along the lines of “turn or burn“.  My “congregation” howled at my preacher imitation.  I laughed too; but that moment of mockery over 50 years ago has been indelibly tattooed on my heart.  My...

Free means somebody else paid for it.

Posted on May 23, 2013 in blog, messages

We are free today because many American soldiers paid the highest price for our freedom throughout history. They gave their lives in warfare, so that we could make something of our lives today. Memorial Day is a day of remembering these men and women who died while fighting for our freedom. We thank and honor those who paid the highest price. And we thank those families bereft of these loved ones. Our son-in-law, Marcus Brotherton (www.marcusbrotherton.com), has interviewed and written about the men who fought in World War II, in Germany and the South Pacific. One of those men, Shifty...

THE STUFF OF LEGACY

Posted on May 16, 2013 in blog, messages

I thought my Dad had died 25 years ago, but there he was looking at me in the eye. Spooky. All the emotions I felt the last time I saw him on his death bed came back in a instant. Memories flashed on my mental screen like a slide show: Fishing together was the featured picture. But, then I refocus and realize that I’m actually looking at his driver’s license photo I found in his wallet. I’m in Albuquerque helping my brothers clean out my mom’s house so we can sell it. Mom is 94 and Dad really did die 25 years ago. Going through an old five-drawer filing cabinet, I am...

Rock the cradle, rule the world

Posted on May 9, 2013 in messages

Mother’s have an unparalleled power to change the world. The Bible validates the proverb that the hand that rocks the cradle rules the world. The Apostle Paul affirmed Pastor Timothy for the rich quality of faith that he learned from his mom and grandmother. “I have been reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.” 2 Timothy 1:5 President Abraham Lincoln esteemed moms when he wrote that “No man is poor who has had a godly mother.” While church is important to help train our...

Welcome

We are a neighborhood church.  We have just completed a major remodel of our  facilities, added a new, spacious parking lot, and upgraded our sound and video systems so that  you can feel right at home in our fresh facilities. Our name,  Living Hope Church , comes from the Bible.  1 Peter 1:3  says “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In His great mercy He has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”  In these times when change is occurring rapidly and with greater intensity, we are blessed with...
